Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) is looking to recruit a:
EMEAP Marketing Director (m/f/d)
Based in Wiesbaden, Germany – reporting to ADC’s VP International Commercial Operations
Primary Goal:
Define and execute an integrated marketing vision for ADC EMEA that drives sustainable revenue growth, category expansion, and market share gains across both insulin-using and non-insulin-using patient populations. Lead and develop a high-performing marketing organization, foster operational efficiency across global and affiliate partnerships, and ensure the disciplined translation of strategy into commercial results — with accountability for both short-term performance and the long-term capability of the function.
Primary Function:
This is a senior leadership role with direct accountability for shaping ADC EMEA’s marketing direction and translating it into disciplined commercial execution — across patient and HCP segments, digital and traditional channels, and diverse affiliate markets. The position carries material influence over the Division’s short- and long-term profitability, with responsibility for building a high-performing, future-ready marketing organization capable of competing and winning in a rapidly evolving diabetes care landscape.
Major Job Responsibilities:
-
Develop and drive the commercial and go‑to‑market strategy for ADC EMEA, resulting in growth and retention of revenue and market share.
-
Anticipate market dynamics, including customer and patient needs in the diabetes management space. Turn insights into opportunities and direct areas and countries toward innovative solutions to increase revenue and market share.
-
Develop the marketing strategy spanning discrete patient segments and HCP audiences — with specific focus on growing and expanding among intensive insulin using (IUP) and non-insulin using patient populations, grounded in category and segment insights — that maximizes market potential and commercial return for diabetes care products.
-
Ensure effective and timely implementation of agreed marketing strategies and tactics across EMEA markets, within budget and timelines. Lead regional marketing investment strategy and budget stewardship, ensuring resources are allocated and optimized to deliver maximum commercial impact and support long-term growth objectives across markets.
-
Effectively liaise, communicate with, and influence multiple key stakeholders within ADC, including Global Strategic Marketing (HQ), Senior Leadership, and in‑affiliate marketing leads across EMEA.
-
Develop and grow marketing leadership talent across EMEA affiliate teams, fostering a culture of commercial innovation and continuous learning — ensuring the organization is future-ready to meet evolving market demands and business priorities.
-
Ensure compliance with all applicable Abbott and statutory business and regulatory requirements, including Abbott ethics and compliance and the Code of Business Conduct.
-
Steer the development and execution of digital marketing programs across EMEA, ensuring channel and content programs are aligned to global strategies, commercial priorities and evolving customer and patient expectations across both consumer and HCP audiences.
-
Champion the adoption of AI tools and technologies to augment EMEA team efficiency, accelerate content and campaign development, and create novel approaches to achieving commercial business objectives.
-
Apply marketing innovation, customer and category insight, and operational efficiency principles to continuously enhance sales force effectiveness — equipping field teams with differentiated tools, messaging, and resources that strengthen HCP engagement and accelerate commercial performance across EMEA markets.
Profile Requirements:
Education:
-
Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in Life Sciences or Business required, Post‑graduate qualification in Marketing or Management strongly preferred.
Required Experience:
-
Seasoned marketeer with regional experience at Director level within the Pharmaceutical or Healthcare sector.
-
Experience in Direct-to-Patient or Over the Counter healthcare products.
-
Experience in integrated product launches across multiple channels, including government reimbursed sales, retail, and out of pocket sectors.
-
Proven track record in leading and developing people and building effective working relationships with a broad range of cross functional, matrix stakeholders.
-
Ability to plan, organize, and manage complex projects while dealing efficiently and effectively with conflicting priorities.
-
Strong communicator with the ability to inspire teams and drive buy in and alignment through effective written and oral communication.
-
Ability to assimilate complex information to identify trends and obstacles, maintaining a positive and solution driven approach to commercial opportunities that benefit ADC.
-
Proven history of delivering strong results through innovative solutions and flawless execution.
-
Self-starter with a strong desire to succeed and a willingness to continually learn and develop.
-
Experience driving change and building sustainable capabilities.
-
Proven experience operating within a global marketing organization, with demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships across global and affiliate teams — navigating matrixed structures to drive alignment, establish scalable ways of working, and deliver operational efficiency without compromising local market relevance.
Preferred Experience:
-
Work experience across multiple countries and/or divisions, including both country and headquarters/functional roles.
-
Experience in the diabetes area and/or relevant product categories.
-
Sales or sales management experience in the pharmaceutical or medical device sector.
