To support this journey, we are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher who is passionate about advancing innovative methods and shaping the next generation of clinical data science.

Tasks & responsibilities
- In your new role you will identify, implement, and evaluate innovative generative AI methodologies across areas such as NLP, LLMs, agentic AI systems, diffusion models, and multimodal architectures.
- In addition, you will design and develop agentic AI systems for applications including protocol optimization, safety signal summarization, patient profile modeling, and intelligent querying.
- You will further assess agentic AI workflows capable of orchestrating multi‑step clinical data analyses, autonomously generating and refining clinical documents, retrieving evidence from scientific literature, and performing iterative reasoning to optimize internal processes.
- Moreover, you will develop strategies to ensure that agentic systems operate safely, transparently, and responsibly within defined boundaries.
- You will also collaborate closely with clinical subject matter experts and contribute to advancing scientific and technical excellence within the Data Science and Statistics team at BI.
- Beyond this, you will actively support the integration of generative and agentic AI approaches into existing workflows to drive innovation and enhance decision‑making across the organization.
- Lastly, you will communicate findings, insights, and recommendations to internal stakeholders, ensuring alignment on AI‑driven methodologies and their implementation.
Requirements
- PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Biomedical Informatics, or a closely related quantitative discipline
- Strong research expertise in generative AI (e.g., LLMs, diffusion models, multimodal architectures) demonstrated by peer‑reviewed publications in scientific journals
- Proven experience in developing and evaluating agentic AI systems, autonomous workflows, or tool‑using AI architectures
- Excellent data processing and analytical skills in Python, with experience handling large‑scale datasets; familiarity with R is an advantage
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement machine‑learning models using frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
- Familiarity with NLP development tools and frameworks—including Hugging Face Transformers, OpenAI SDK, AWS Strands Agents, or comparable solutions—with additional experience in GUI creation (e.g., Streamlit, Shiny) considered a plus
- Knowledge of responsible AI principles, including evaluation and mitigation of hallucinations, bias assessment, and safe deployment, alongside a solid understanding of clinical data types, DevOps practices, and high‑performance computing (all considered advantageous)
- Fluency in written and spoken English as well as strong interpersonal skills enabling effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
