
Principal Clinical Data Scientist
The Position
Biostatistics and Data Sciences (BDS) is a global organization within the Human Pharma Business Unit.
By working in close collaboration with other functions at Boehringer Ingelheim and external vendors, we integrate methodological and technical data science skills with business and scientific expertise. Together, we drive smart, timely, and confident decision-making from Proof of Concept (PoC) to approval and market access.
On our journey to transform BDS into a modern data science organization in clinical development our intent is to create a learning organization in which people develop and deploy leading-edge data science approaches and technologies to actively plan, generate and evaluate evidence that shapes informed decision-making along the value chain.
In Clinical Data Science, you support late phase clinical drug development by providing strategic planning and execution, data transformation as well as all aspects of descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive analytics of data.
The job location for this position is either in Ingelheim or Biberach. This position can be filled as Senior Clinical Data Scientist or Principal Clinical Data Scientist.
This position is part time eligible with 80 %.
Tasks & responsibilities
- As a Senior Clinical Data Scientist, you will be responsible for the planning and execution of clinical post-PoC trials and data-driven projects. This includes all aspects of data analytics and transformation, from developing the statistical design and analysis plans to creating tools that generate actionable insights. You will also define statistical specifications and/or apply industry data standards to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance across studies.
- You will apply traditional statistical methods and combine them with cutting-edge data science techniques to design, collect, and analyze clinical data from trials and projects.
- In this role, you will contribute to evidence generation in clinical studies and projects by analyzing and interpreting data to tell a compelling story. Your insights drive informed decisions and actions that make a meaningful difference for patients.
- You will collaborate closely with scientists and experts from various disciplines within clinical development.
- Furthermore, you will continuously enhance your business knowledge and scientific expertise in a global drug development environment.
- Moreover, you will actively exchange knowledge and expertise with the statistical and data science community, both within and outside of Boehringer.
Additional tasks for the Principal Clinical Data Scientist role:
- You will take accountability by leading and overseeing the design, transformation, analysis and reporting of complex phase I–IV clinical trials and related projects. In this role, you provide strategic direction and ensure the scientific integrity and quality of all data science activities across studies.
Requirements
- Master of Science (MSc) or Doctoral Degree (PhD) in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field (Data Science, Natural Science, Psychology, Finance, etc.)
- Sound knowledge of statistical methodology, design of clinical trials or clinical experiments, basic medical terminology and on processing clinical trial information as well as experience in pharmaceutical development
- Demonstrated advanced experience in clinical development, including submission processes and interactions with regulatory authorities, is advantageous. Prior experience in inflammation or oncology indications is considered beneficial as well.
- Advanced knowledge of and hands-on experience in relevant software languages, like SAS and R
- Interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with people, internally and externally (e.g. academic partners, CROs, scientific experts, management) as well as evidence of strong teamwork, also in global and remote context
- Oral and written communication skills to interact in interdisciplinary teams as well as the ability to explain, visualize and communicate statistical information to non-statisticians effectively
- Fluency in written and spoken English
Additional requirements for the Principal Scientist role:
- Broad knowledge and advanced experience in understanding of clinical trial development processes
Advanced experience in leading projects and engaging with regulatory authorities
